[email protected]: A festive day at Yas Marina
Yas Marina’s water-themed family fun day [email protected] is back for it second year this Friday – with more water sports to try, more entertainment, and more pirates.
Bring your swimsuits and a towel – there’s the chance to try wakeboarding, water skiing, standup paddling, kayaking and even sailing.
And if you like taking it easy, there’s always the sea sofa – a high-speed tow along the channel between Yas Marina and the mainland. Or try your hand at water sports on dry land.
There’s the surfboard simulator, complete with soft landing platform – if and when you fall off, you’ll know you’ll be safe underneath.
For the younger splash mates there’s plenty to keep them occupied and entertained as well. There’s an inflatable water slide, bouncy castles, magicians, balloon benders, face painting, a live band, the UAE’s tastiest ice-cream to savour.
Plus a chance to try out pirate soccer skills from the PASS Mini Kickers academy, where the kids will learn various football techniques and skills through fun, age specific and progressive practices, including elements of agility, balance, coordination and speed to develop the athletic abilities.
And for an eye-opening introduction duction to water without getting completely soaked, there’s Mad Science’s H2O Show and the chance to sign up for a follow-on Water Workshop.
Those looking to get into the festive spirit will be glad to know that Santa Claus will also be making an appearance between 15:00 and 17:00, during which time Yas Island will be providing complimentary photos with Santa which will be presented in Christmas cards.
To finish things off in style, when dusk falls there’s a free children’s movie on the outdoor screen between 18:00 and 19:30.
Live music will also be ringing out from 19:30-22:00 and will provide a great backdrop for those wishing to stay on at the facility for dinner or drinks at one of the marina’s seven new restaurants and lounges which will be open all day.
Seafood restaurant Aquarium will also be getting into the spirit, with an offer whereby all kids can eat for free when their parents dine during the event. [email protected] runs from midday to 19:00 on Friday, December 13 at Yas Marina on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
There’s no charge for entry, although some of the water sport taster sessions do have a modest charge of between Dh10 and Dh100. The water-based activities are available to anyone above the age of 13, however children must be supervised by their parents at all times.
All are supervised by qualified instructors and life jackets are provided. There are changing facilities on site. One of the most exciting aspects of the family day out is that you can get an introductory look at so many different water sports, and who knows maybe you’ll discover a latent talent for one of them.
There is free valet parking at the Marina and direction signs from the Al Zeina turn at Raha Beach. [email protected] is organised for Yas Marina by ProActive, the community fitness and lifestyle events specialist.
