They don’t come much tougher than Corinne Hutton – that’s for sure.

The 43-year-old mother from Lochwinnoch in Scotland, who had a quadruple amputation (both hands and legs) as a result of septicemia, is in Dubai this weekend to take part in the Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge, as she hopes to spread awareness about her new charity.

Just days after the life-saving procedure, she decided to set-up Finding Your Feet which was dedicated to helping others who suffer from similar conditions as herself.

The Dubai 92 Cycle Challenge is the charity’s first big fund-raising effort, but that’s not all. She’s also hosting a night at McGettigan’s in Dubai this Friday night, December 13, where she will give an inspirational speech about her illness, what she went through to overcome it, and why she has decided to dedicate her life to helping people in a similar situation as herself.

Tickets for the night at McGettigan’s are Dh350, and this price is inclusive of food and drink with all monies raised going to Finding Your Feet.

Raising money for charity isn’t something new for Corinne and this initiative didn’t just come about because of her life-threatening illness.

She was always a very active and healthy individual, and regularly set herself challenges which were invariably done for charity – especially for kids.

Some of the challenges she completed were the New York marathon (for Children’s Hospice), the Glasgow Half-marathon (CHAS), she cycled the Great Wall of China (Maggie’s Cancer Care), trekked the Himalayas (Maggie’s Cancer Care), did Maggie’s Monster (31- mile cycle and 41-mile hike), Rob Roy Challenge (16-mile hike and 39-mile cycle) and the Kiltwalk (26 miles from Hampden to Loch Lomond for Scotland’s Children).

Corinne is first hoping to raise enough money to pay for her bionic hands, but promises she will continue to keep the charity afloat.

“I hate asking for help,” she said. “But I absolutely promise that once I’m back up and running, I’ll take over this charity and I’ll help other people like me.”
