Rory McIlroy says he has become very good at saying no to people, and it seems that includes next year’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

The oldest tournament in the region is scheduled for January 31 to February 3 next year, and even though the world No1 has been named the star attraction of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship a couple of weeks before Dubai, but has decided not take part in the neighbouring Emirates.

Omega Dubai Desert Classic was McIlroy’s first win as a professional in 2009, and the tournament was one of the few that invited him as an amateur in his early years.

Even though McIlroy did not name Dubai as one of the tournaments he is cutting from his 2013 schedule, his manager, Conor Ridge, confirmed he will be missing out.

McIlroy did not name Dubai in the list of tournaments he intents to play early next year.

“I’ve done my schedule. I’m sticking to it, and I’m not letting anyone persuade me to go anywhere else. I’ve learned my lesson over the last couple of years, and yeah, I’m going to stick to what I’ve planned to do,” said McIlroy after his stunning win at the DP World Tour Championship.

“So far I’ve scheduled Abu Dhabi, Match Play, Honda, Doral, Houston. I think that’s it.”
