Pharmaton Capsules overcame Hoopaholic Tigers 75-69 to clinch the FIBAL (Filipino Invitational Basketball Amateur League) Cup title at the Jumeirah Baccalaureate School in Dubai yesterday.

Pharmaton Capsules established an early 28-13 lead after the first period and maintained a double-digit until lead at half time, 43-29.

Momentum, however, shifted to the other side in the third quarter, when the perimetre shooters of Hoopaholic Tigers led by Archie Montecillo and Jayson Sunga found their touch. A big 3-point shot by Arnie de Guzman in the dying seconds sent the game to its first deadlock at 53-all going to the final period.

Both teams exchanged baskets in the fourth quarter with neither showing signs of domination until the last two minutes.

Pharmaton Capsules barely enjoyed a three-point lead, 66-63, with 2:40 left when Bobby Belasa of Hoopaholic Tigers made a steal and drove straight to the basket to make it just a one-point game going to the end zone.

Pharmaton Capsules coach Ruel Monterola called for a timeout, following which Michael Marasigan canned a 3-pointer followed by a fastbreak lay-up by Ian Riano which gave them a go-ahead lead and they never looked back thereafter.

“I told my players to give all they got in the last two minutes. In every tournament, the team with the biggest heart always wins the championship,” Monterola told Sport360°.

“This is all because of the hard work, dedication and cooperation of everyone,” he added.

Elsewhere, the Red Lions edged out Scorpions 77-76 to capture the third place.
