Liverpool linked with surprise move for Spurs misfit Dos Santos
Liverpool are reportedly considering a surprise move for Tottenham misfit Giovani Dos Santos, according to a report in the Mexican media.
The Reds have just begun a new era after appointing Brendan Rodgers as the successor to Kenny Dalglish on Friday, and the club is expected to have a busy summer recruiting new players as they look to fulfill the wishes of the owners and become a Champions League force again.
Rodgers was keen to take Dos Santos on loan while still in charge at Swansea, and according to ESPN Deportes – the Mexican branch of ESPN – the Northern Irishman remains interested in signing the Mexico forward now that he has taken over the Anfield hotseat.
Dos Santos appears destined to leave Tottenham this summer after playing just 46 minutes of Premier League football last campaign, and while it originally seemed likely he would move to Spain, the reported interest from Liverpool could tempt the 23-year-old to remain in England.
Dos Santos spent the second half of the 2010-11 season on-loan at Spanish club Racing Santander where he impressed enough to almost gain a move to Sevilla, before Spurs cancelled the deal at the last minute.
The former Barcelona player, who has one year left on his current contract, has revealed he will hold talks with Spurs to discuss his future, but has admitted he wants to move on before the start of next season.
"[Tottenham] have given me answers but none convince me," Dos Santos said as to why Spurs have refused to sell him up to this point despite clearly not being part of Harry Redknapp’s plans.
"Because, at the end of the day, they haven't given me minutes on the pitch. I respect the club and my contract, but my intention is to leave.”
