Filipino Sports League heads for final-four showdown this weekend
LBC go into the semi-final round of Filipino Sports League (FSL) Season 1 with a huge psychological advantage after trouncing bracket-A leaders Spearhead 75-57 at the close of the elimination round on Friday night.
Both teams will face each other again, this time in the do-or-die semi-final on September 9, at the Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Al Maktoum Sports Hall in Jumeirah.
Spearhead, who had an impressive 7-1 win-loss card in the elimination round, opened the game with an early six-point lead at 15-9, but LBC delivered on their fastbreak plays to wrestle the lead, 36-27, at the close of the first half.
LBC thereafter applied the pressure and thwarted Spearhead’s comeback attempts with better ball rotation and defence.
Three players of LBC scored in double digits led by team captain Michael Gonzales with 23 points, followed by Dondon Santos with 20 and Raffy Ligtas, 10. Roldan and Lobo led the unsuccessful campaign for Spearhead with 14 and 10 markers respectively.
The winner between LBC and Spearhead will face the victor in the other semi-final match between Jazzville and LSIS-Mightly Hawks.
Jazzville swept the bracket-B elimination with a perfect 8-0 slate. They beat LSIS-Mightly Hawks in their first meeting 67-52.
Meanwhile, despite being eliminated, Dubai Heat ended the tournament on a winning note with a 60-58 victory over Awoo. Hardworking player Jesus led Dubai Heat with 18 points.
